Traditional training will undeniably teach you the foundations, but it will often lack the practice beyond the theory. Whether it’s learning multiple styles, cultural nuances, developing resilience, understanding how to adapt ways of working or bringing people together in new ways. The experience of traditional training in non-traditional places is that it breaks the monotony and invites fresh perspectives. You can be confident in what you have been taught but beyond that you can be confident in what you know as it is experience rooted in variety and has come from beyond the confines of traditional learning environments. People that I have worked with that have had traditional training in non-traditional places are often the most authentic to themselves as they know how to show up in a way that delivers the role in a way true to them.
AI is impacting the creative industry as a whole, and client partnerships are no exception. We need to see AI as the powerful tool that it is, complementing the human mind rather than replacing it. There’s an endless conversation about the unknown of AI, but we have to 'feel the fear and do it anyway'. Whether it is using AI to make processes more seamless, providing virtual assistants to free up time, or welcoming AI into ways of working to challenge perspectives. AI should impact client partnerships for the better but only if we train the tools to ultimately help us solve strategic business problems and build meaningful relationships in a way that always has human emotion at the core.
Never let anyone or any environment stifle your ambition. Embrace the fire inside of you and channel it in a way that will deliver results for those around you. Don't apologise for your ambition. Instead, get comfortable with it ... really comfortable with it! And understand what core values lie behind it. From there seek roles and environments that nurture that ambition and enable you to thrive because of it.
